A 27-year-old laborer was gunned down while a 19-year-old woman was wounded after two unidentified suspects opened fire on a birthday celebration in Sitio Sinuwayan, Brgy. Camalandaan, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, Monday night, Sept. 15.
Police investigation revealed that the male victim, who had been drinking with the family of the celebrant, decided to sleep at the house due to intoxication.
Minutes later, two men carrying long firearms arrived and ordered him to step outside.
As soon as he reached the doorway, the suspects shot him multiple times, causing his instantaneous death.
The teenage victim, a family member of the celebrant, was standing by the doorway when she was hit on the arm by a stray bullet.
She was rushed to the Merciditas Montilla Memorial Hospital in Sipalay City for treatment.
Police said the suspects fled the scene after the attack.
The family of the slain victim refused to have his body brought to the Cauayan District Hospital for a post-mortem examination and instead opted for immediate burial at the Pinamay-an Cemetery.
Authorities are conducting further investigation to establish the identities of the gunmen and the motive behind the attack.*
