A man was killed while two others were injured after a delivery van of a logistics company swerved to avoid a crossing carabao and collided head-on with a beverage delivery truck in Brgy. Daga, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, early Wednesday morning, Aug. 6.
Lt. Col. John Joel Batusbatusan, Cadiz City Police Chief, said the passenger of the LBC delivery van died, while its driver and the driver of the Coca-Cola truck sustained injuries.
Initial police investigation revealed that the LBC van was en route to Bacolod City, while the Coca-Cola truck was heading towards Cadiz City for a beverage delivery.
As the LBC van approached Brgy. Daga, a carabao suddenly crossed the road.
The van’s driver tried to avoid the animal but lost control, veering into the opposite lane and slamming into the oncoming Coca-Cola truck.
Emergency responders from the Cadiz City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed both the LBC driver and his passenger to a nearby hospital, but the passenger was declared dead on arrival.
Batusbatusan said the LBC driver remains confined, while the Coca-Cola driver, who sustained minor injuries, has been discharged and is now in police custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
The carabao, which was also injured in the incident, was found without any leash or attendant, leading authorities to believe it had wandered loose without supervision.*
