Two pedestrians killed, one injured in separate NegOcc road incidents

Two pedestrians, including a minor, were killed while another was seriously injured in separate road accidents in La Carlota and Kabankalan cities in Negros Occidental on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

In La Carlota City, an unidentified woman believed to be around 40 years old was hit by a pickup utility vehicle along the national highway in Brgy. Haguimit at about 5:23 a.m.

Police said the vehicle, driven by a 60-year-old man identified only as alias “Mario,” was traveling from Bacolod City toward Canlaon City when the woman allegedly crossed the roadway and was struck.

The victim sustained injuries to different parts of her body and was brought by the La Carlota City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital, where she was declared dead.

The driver was taken into police custody together with the vehicle for proper disposition.

In a separate incident in Kabankalan City, a minor was killed while his father sustained serious injuries after they were hit by a sport utility vehicle in Purok Taytay, Brgy. Oringao, at about 8:20 a.m.

Police said the victims were cleaning their tricycle beside the road when the vehicle allegedly overshot the roadway and struck them.

The minor and his father, identified only as alias “Lito,” 26, were rushed by the Kabankalan City DRRMO to Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital.

The child was declared dead, while the father was treated for serious physical injuries.

The vehicle was driven by a 39-year-old construction manager identified only as alias “Marvin,” a resident of Pasig City.

Police said the driver was taken into custody for proper disposition as investigation into the accident continued.*
