PRO-NIR trains 55 participants on cases involving minors exposed to violent extremism

The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region has opened a three-day seminar-workshop in Bacolod City on handling cases involving minors who may be exposed to nihilistic violent extremism and harmful online content.

The activity began Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Food Terminal Market along North Capitol Road and gathered 55 participants from law enforcement and partner government agencies.

PRO-NIR said the training is intended to strengthen the ability of personnel to identify, prevent and respond to cases involving minors exposed to violent extremist ideologies.

The seminar includes discussions on online environments where minors may encounter content promoting hatred, violence or acts that could cause serious harm.

Participants are also being trained to recognize possible indicators of online radicalization, coercion, exploitation and other harmful digital interactions while ensuring that information is properly validated.

The workshop covers investigation, documentation, referral procedures and inter-agency coordination in cases involving minors.

PRO-NIR said particular emphasis is being placed on the roles of Women and Children Protection personnel and social workers to ensure appropriate safeguards for children who may have been manipulated, exploited or coerced.

Participants came from the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit, Department of Social Welfare and Development, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, Philippine Army, Regional Prosecutor’s Office, PRO-NIR, Bacolod City Police Office, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office and Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office.

The opening ceremony was led by Col. Gilbert Gorero together with Col. Sandy Vales, Capt. Wilma Silva and Capt. Armrhod Presto of the Anti-Cybercrime Group.

PRO-NIR said the activity also stresses coordination among police, social workers, schools, parents and other stakeholders to support early intervention and protect the rights and welfare of minors.*
