Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said he would like to see Senator Manny Pacquiao win the first boxing gold for the Philippines in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

If ever Pacquiao considers fighting again, Lacson said he hopes it will be in the Olympics that now allows professional boxers to join. In the Olympics he will only have to fight three rounds, Lacson said, when it was pointed out that the boxing icon would be 45 by then.

Pacquiao, 42, was defeated by Cuba’s Yordenis Ugas, 35, during their WBA welterweight title fight in Las Vegas, Nevada, Sunday.

“I think it was convincing win for Ugas,” Lacson said.

Lacson said maybe the senator will consider hanging up his gloves, but if he decides to fight again he hopes it will be at the 2024 Olympics.

Pacquiao has already made his name, fought many good fights and given the country so many years to be happy about, Lacson said.

Definitely he will be a hall of famer in boxing and will always be the people’s champ, he added.

Former Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella, who was in Las Vegas with Pacquiao, said the boxing world considers him not only a legend but the greatest boxer of all time.

Boxing experts say Ugas is just lucky Pacquaio is now 42 years old, Puentevella said.*
