Council declares Kevin Tan ‘adopted son’ of Bacolod

Real estate tycoon Kevin Tan was declared an “adopted son” of Bacolod City by members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod on Wednesday, October 12.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Jason Villarosa, SP Committee on Tourism head, was unanimously passed by the council members during their regular session.

The resolution said that Tan is the chief executive officer and vice chairman of Alliance Global Inc., a holding company that includes real estate through Megaworld Corporation, hospitality and property management through Travellers International Hotel Group Inc., and liquor through Emperador Inc., as well as the chief strategy officer of Megaworld Corporation where he spearheads the masterplanning and design of townships, including the 34-hectare Upper East in the city, which is dubbed as the “modern central business district of Bacolod.”

Tan is integral to Megaworld’s vision of uplifting lives, impacting society, and helping shape the nation; and shares his father’s vision to help generate 250,000 direct and indirect jobs in Bacolod City and the entire province of Negros Occidental, in business process outsourcing, construction, commercial and retail, hospitality, transport, and estate management and among others, the resolution said.

It added that Tan has been instrumental in his investment in the city of Bacolod and thus, the impact of Megaworld’s investments to the advancement of the economic growth for the city cannot be understated; and his notable future goals include creating employment to over 5 million Filipinos and shifting his company to become carbon neutral by 2035.

“It is in this resolution that we express our recognition and regard to the goals and aspirations of Mr. Tan by declaring him as an adopted son of Bacolod City,” it said.*
