Policemen have been deployed at Negros Occidental and Bacolod City cemeteries to ensure the observance of COVID-19 health protocols as residents begin visiting the graves of their relatives ahead of All Saints and Souls’ days on November 1 and 2.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia have ordered the closure of cemeteries from October 30 to November 2 to prevent crowds from gathering that could lead to a further surge in COVID -19 cases in the province and city.
Before and after the closure dates, crowds should be limited to 30 percent of the cemeteries’ capacities, both officials said.
PLt. Col. Sherlock Gabana, Bacolod City Police Office spokesperson, said policemen have already been deployed at public and private cemeteries to ensure that the 30 percent venue capacity and other COVID-19 health protocols are observed by those already visiting the graves of their relatives.
Those found violating COVID-19 health protocols will be issued citation tickets and if they defy the police they will be arrested and charged for disobedience against persons in authority, Gabana said.
Policemen in Negros Occidental towns and cities have adopted similar measures.*
