2 Covid-designated facilities to revert to regular hospitals

Two COVID-19 designated facilities in Negros Occidental will slowly revert to regular hospitals starting December 1 following the drop in coronavirus cases in the province, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said Sunday, November 28.

The two are the Valeriano M. Gatuslao Memorial District Hospital in Himamaylan City and the Valladolid District Hospital in Valladolid town.

The Cadiz District Hospital will also use its annex building for non COVID-19 cases, he added.

This was agreed on by the Provincial Incident Management Team and approved by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, he said.

The Valladolid District Hospital will use a 15-bed isolation ward that was repaired and renovated for COVID-19 cases, while the Valeriano M. Gatuslao Memorial District Hospital will no longer accept COVID-19 cases, Diaz said.

Negros Occidental’s active COVID-19 cases were down to 487 on Sunday.

Himamaylan Mayor Rogelio Raymund Tongson Jr. had requested the governor to revert the Valeriano M. Gatuslao Memorial District Hospital back to a non-Covid hospital.

Lacson had ordered the conversion of the hospital into a COVID-19 facility at the height of a surge in the virus in September.

As mayor of Himamaylan City as well as chairman of the South-Central Negros Interlocal Health Zone, Tongson said he strongly appeals that his urgent request be acted on.

Tongson, in his letter to the governor, cited the steady decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases in Negros Occidental.

“Its reversion would mean a lot not only for the Himamaylanons but mostly for the people of the 5th District having non-COVID related concerns and illnesses since they would no longer be compelled to go to Kabankalan to seek medical assistance,” Tongson said.*
