Victorias City has started posting “unsafe” signs on buildings assessed as structurally unsound following the earthquake that hit the Visayas on Tuesday.

“This step ensures public safety and serves as an official reminder to avoid entry into affected private and public structures,” the Victorias City government announced on its Facebook page on Friday, Oct. 3..

“The city government urges everyone to remain vigilant and prioritize safety at all times”, it said.

The magnitude 5.3 earthquake that struck Tuesday night caused damage to several schools and the evacuation center in Moises Padilla, a press release from the town said on Friday.

The latest damage assessment was conducted on Thursday, October 2, in Barangay Odiong, led by Municipal Engineer Agnes Glia Mabag and Fire Officer Joseph Raleigh Biñas of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), it said.

Odiong Elementary School sustained the most severe damage.

Assessors found multiple cracks in the floors and walls of its classrooms, with one wall even showing signs of tilting.

The Guinpana-an National High School – Odiong Extension only showed minor cracks on its walls.

The Montilla Elementary School building and the town’s main evacuation center also sustained minor damage.*
