Trike driver dead, couple hurt after car-tricycle crash in Bago

A tricycle driver was killed while a married couple sustained injuries after a car rear-ended a tricycle and rammed into pedestrians before crashing into a roadside canal along the national highway in Brgy. Taloc, Bago City, Monday afternoon, July 21.

The tricycle driver, Armando Gallego, 52, from Purok Fatima, Brgy. Taloc, died during the incident that happened at about 12:05 p.m., the police said.

He was driving a tricycle from Bago to Bacolod when his vehicle was hit from behind by a black Honda Civic driven by Julin Joul Fernandez, 22, a college student from Hinigaran town.

The impact caused both the tricycle and car to veer off the road, striking two pedestrians standing on the roadside, identified as Charles Kevin Tan, 36, and his wife Maria Cecilia Tan, 35, of Purok High School, Brgy. Taloc.

All three victims were rushed to the Bago City Hospital and Gallego was declared dead.

The car driver, Fernandez, was unharmed and is now in police custody, along with both vehicles involved, for proper investigation and disposition.
