‘Skim, Surf, and Frisbee’ festival set

With tourism recovery efforts still ongoing after the Typhoon Odette devastation, the local government of Sipalay City is set for its second Skim, Surf, and Frisbee Fest Friday, July 29.

The local government in collaboration with the City Locals Steelwolves Skimboarding, City adDISC Ultimate, Panaon Surf Camp, City Tourism Development and Promotion Office, and City Sports Office, are expecting around 250 sports enthusiasts for the three-day festival starting Friday until July 31.

The organizers said that the participants will come from various places in the Negros Island, Davao, Leyte, Siquijor, Cebu, and Iloilo.

Jerick Lacson, city tourism officer, said the activity will strengthen sports tourism as one of the unique selling points of the city as a tourist destination and bring in more tourists and stimulate the local economy, especially during the low season.

“The fest is also to support the ongoing tourism recovery efforts of the LGU through sports tourism events and provide a venue for the locals to showcase their talents in skimboarding, surfing, and frisbee,” he said.

The activities to be held at the said fest are Sipalay Skimboarding Jam II, Sand Sun Sipalay, Frisbee Tournament Volume 4, Sipalay Surfing – Paddling Competition, Free Sports Tourism Clinic for locals and tourists – Frisbee, Surfing, and Skimboarding, Surfing and skimboarding exhibitions, Sports Tourism 101 Talks, Beach walking tour and clean-up, Sports Tourism Bazaar.*
