Sagay cold storage warehouse gets NMIS license, strengthens food safety standards

Sagay City has strengthened its meat safety and storage system after the National Meat Inspection Service–Negros Island Region granted a License to Operate to the Sagay City Slaughterhouse and Stockyard Auction Market Cold Storage Warehouse.

The formal turnover of the license was led by NMIS-NIR Regional Technical Director Dr. Maria Ancilia Zartiga during a courtesy visit with Meat Inspector III Marie Joy Moleño on June 24, a press release from  Sagay City said Monday.

With the approval, both the Sagay City Abattoir and Meat Processing Plant and the cold storage warehouse are now accredited by the National Meat Inspection Service and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

The double accreditation is expected to improve consumer confidence, strengthen regulatory compliance, and ensure that meat products handled by the city meet national food safety and quality standards.

Zartiga congratulated the City Government of Sagay and the Economic Enterprise Management Office for consistently working to comply with national requirements governing meat inspection, processing, and cold storage operations.

Representing Mayor Leo Rafael “Bebo” M. Cueva, Vice Mayor Narciso L. Javelosa Jr. received the license together with City Administrator Engr. Rodnel H. de los Reyes, SP Member Sherwin Sy, City Agriculturist Julie Delima, and EEMO Head  Ryan I. Bonghanoy.

Cueva said the accreditation reflects the city’s commitment to protecting consumers and improving the reliability of local food facilities.

“Food safety is a public health responsibility. By meeting national standards, we give our consumers greater confidence that the meat products passing through our facilities are handled properly and safely,” Cueva said.

The city’s meat facilities are managed by the Economic Enterprise Management Office under Bonghanoy’s leadership.*
