The Bacolod Traffic and Transport Management Department is implementing an experimental traffic scheme at the intersection of Lopez Jaena and Galo streets to address congestion along the major thoroughfare.
Bacolod traffic chief Reuben Mikhail Sabig said on Sunday, April 19, that barricades were installed to restrict left turns, which were identified as a key cause of traffic buildup along Lopez Jaena Street.
Sabig said Lopez Jaena is a major road used by public utility vehicles, and nearby intersections such as Burgos and Galo streets contribute to traffic conflicts due to closely spaced turning points.
He added that vehicles previously used nearby private roads, including the Megaworld area, as shortcuts for left turns, further affecting traffic flow and nearby intersections such as Bangga Patyo.
Under the new setup, motorists are directed to make right turns toward Galo or Burgos streets, with an option to take a U-turn slot near the fire station or access alternative routes such as the West Negros area.
Sabig said the scheme is being implemented on a trial basis from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with traffic personnel deployed in key areas to monitor its impact.
The city government said the adjustment aims to improve traffic flow along Lopez Jaena Street while monitoring feedback from motorists.*
