The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) headquarters will  be established in Bago City, Mayor Mayette Javellana announced on Friday, July 3.

Javellana said Bago City’s  hosting the regional headquarters will  boost local peace and order while fostering greater investor confidence in the city.

The announcement followed a meeting on Friday between Bago City officials and a PRO-NIR delegation led by Regional Director Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño to discuss details for the project.

Cardiño confirmed that the plans are moving forward, noting that the city government has agreed to a few adjustments regarding the lot donation to the Philippine National Police.

Cardiño explained that Bago City is an ideal host due to its close proximity to Bacolod City.

To maximize accessibility for stakeholders, the PNP  has decided to station several key frontline units at its future regional headquarters in Bago, including the Regional Highway Patrol Group, the Regional Civil Security Group, the Regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), and the Regional Cybercrime Unit, he said.

He thanked  the local government for its generosity and collaboration.

Cardiño also vowed to support Javellana’s initiative to strengthen the criminology program at Bago City College by utilizing police personnel to help teach and train students planning to join the PNP in the future.*
