The detailed engineering design of the Panay-Guimaras-Negros Island Bridge Project is 82 percent complete.

Construction of Section A or the Panay-Guimaras Bridge is expected to start next year, Engineer Jessica Andaya of the Department of Public Works and Highways Central Office-Roads Management Cluster 1, informed Mayor Marina “Mayette” Javellana-Yao of Bago City in Negros Occidental during a courtesy visit on Friday, July 4.

Andaya presented to the mayor the Panay-Guimaras-Negros Island Bridge Project overview and updates, as well as their request for a site for a field office for the project in Bago, a post of the city’s Facebook page said.

“Currently, the detailed engineering design of the project is ongoing and we are targeting to complete it by September of this year,” Andaya said.

The agency has already identified the initial location of the field office that will handle the bridge project.

“We are just waiting for the approval of the local government,” Andaya said.

She said the landing of the bridge is connected to the Negros South Road with one side situated in Bago City.

“We are now at 82 percent of the detailed engineering design so next year we are expected to begin the construction of Section A covering Panay and Guimaras. The Section B covers Guimaras and Negros,” Andaya said.

The Panay-Guimaras bridge spans 13 kilometers, while the Guimaras-Negros stretch covers 19.47 kilometers.*
