Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson cited businessman Simplicio “Sammy” Palanca and his brother Dr. Ernesto Palanca, who are set to be buried in Victorias City on Sunday, for having helped so many Negrenses.

Simplicio Palanca, 98, founder and chairman of the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (BREDCO), passed away after suffering from a cardiac arrest at the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center in Bacolod City on July 10.

His brother Dr. Ernesto Palanca, 86, who founded the Negros Occidental Drug Rehabilitation Center in Victorias City, suffered a massive stroke and died in Metro Manila on July 6.

Lacson said Simplicio Palanca, who was the architect of the BREDCO port and reclamation area, was a visionary who created a lot of economic activity for Bacolod City.

“He was very concerned not only for Bacolod City, but the whole province of Negros Occidental. He helped many people, many scholars benefitted from his generosity,” Lacson said.

”Many of us will be missing him, especially those who benefited from his generosity…I know that the gates of heaven will be wide open for Uncle Sam,” he added

The governor also cited Dr. Ernesto Palanca who worked to rehabilitate many victims of substance abuse.

There will be a wake for the Palanca brothers, who were both cremated, at the Our Lady of Victory Parish Church in Victorias City on Saturday, July 17, their nephew Reynaldo Bantug said.

The burial will be at the family mausoleum at the Victorias City Cemetery after a 2 p.m. mass Sunday, July 18, at the Our Lady of Victory Parish Church, he added.*
