The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Subic seized refined sugar declared as “twist floor maps” and “plastic trash bags” with an estimated value of P16.7 million, it reported Friday, December 10.
Information that the shipment was suspected to contain sugar prompted the port to issue Pre-Lodgment Control Orders (PLCO) against the 14×20’ containers consigned to Multi Subsonic Marketing Co., the BOC said.
Physical examination was conducted on Tuesday, December 7, in the presence of the Enforcement and Security Service, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) resulting in the discovery of the undeclared sugar.
Issuance of Warrants of Seizure and Detention was recommended for violation of the SRA and BOC Joint Memorandum Order No. 04-2002 and Section 1113 (f) of RA No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, the BOC said.*
