No presidential bet yet for Lacson, Benitez

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Bacolod mayoral aspirant Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez have yet to name the presidential candidate they will support for the 2022 polls.

Personally he does not want to make a decision right away, he will wait until next year, Lacson said Monday, November 15, as the deadline for substitution of candidates ended.

Lacson is a member of the Nationalist People’s Coalition.

Benitez, who heads the PDP Laban in Negros and Bacolod, on Monday would also not name the presidential candidate he will support in 2022.

“This is the most confusing election I have ever seen with so many substitutions,” Benitez said.

Asked if he would support the PDP Laban anointed candidate for president, Benitez said “we don’t know yet which one, we will just wait for what happens…so let’s see”.

Senator Bong Go is running for president and President Rodrigo Duterte is running for senator under the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS).

PDP-Laban Secretary General Melvin Matibag said Duterte and Go were running under PDDS due to the unresolved conflict between two PDP-Laban factions.

The PDP Laban Cusi wing would, however, support their candidacies.

Benitez said the law allowing substitution of candidates after the deadline for the filing of certificates of candidacy needs to be reviewed.

Parameters should be set, he said.*
