New roads are paving the way for inclusive infrastructure growth in three villages of Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Negros Island Region (DSWD-NIR) said the three community road sub-projects costing P8.614 million have been implemented through the agency’s Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) program.
The completed projects were turned over by DSWD-NIR Director Arwin Razo to Mayor Nehemiah Joe Dela Cruz on July 10.
“All subprojects focused on concreting and improving critical access roads to enhance mobility, support local economies, and ensure safer travel for residents accessing basic services,” the DSWD-NIR said.
The 230-meter access road in Purok Buri, Barangay Bunga has a final cost of P2.899 million, benefiting at least 1,119 households.
In Purok Natawog, Barangay Kumaliskis, the 220-meter access road with an actual cost of P3.037 million is intended for 551 households.
Another 220-meter access road, benefiting 313 households, was constructed in Purok Cory, Barangay Pandanon, with a final project cost of P2.677 million.
The Don Salvador Benedicto municipal government said “these road projects reaffirm the shared commitment of the DSWD, the local government unit (LGU), and partner-communities to improving rural infrastructure.
“This will also strengthen local connectivity, support agricultural productivity, and enhance the quality of life of the people,” it added.
The three community road sub-projects projects were funded through Kalahi-CIDSS grants and LGU counterpart contributions.
The DSWD provided grants amounting to PHP3.235 million each for Barangays Bunga and Kumaliskis, and PHP2.94 million for Barangay Pandanon.
These were augmented by municipal LGU contributions of PHP45,000 each for Barangays Bunga and Kumaliskis and PHP85,000 for Barangay Pandanon.
Don Salvador Benedicto is known as the “summer capital of Negros Occidental” for its cool climate, and is one of the top tourist destinations in the province.*NLG
