Demonstrating its ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and community empowerment, Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) spearheaded a Fingerlings Release Activity at the Malisbog River in Barangay Patag, Silay City, on Tuesday, August 11.
The event featured the release of thousands of tilapia fries into the river system, alongside a direct donation of additional fingerlings to local Bantay Bukid beneficiaries. The dual-purpose initiative aims to rejuvenate the river’s aquatic ecosystem while providing sustainable livelihood support to the local forest and river guardians of Barangay Patag, a Negros Power press release said Thursday, August 13.
The environmental effort brought together key stakeholders, including the Negros Power Management Committee, NEPC employees, Bantay Bukid beneficiaries, and residents. The initiative was conducted in close coordination with the City Government of Silay, represented by Councilor Michael Maravilla, and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO/ENRO) Silay City, led by JP Maravilla.
Aligning with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14 (Life Below Water), the activity underscores the critical need to preserve inland waterways, enhance aquatic biodiversity, and promote responsible fishing practices in the region.
The event also highlighted Negros Power’s anniversary theme, “Stronger Together,” serving as a testament to what collective action can achieve. Through strategic partnerships with local government units and frontline community groups, Negros Power continues to reinforce its pledge to foster eco-friendly initiatives and build a more resilient, sustainable future for Negros Occidental, the press release said.*
