
Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (DRRMCs) in Negros Occidental were recognized for their commitment to public safety during an Assessment Awarding Ceremony held at the Social Hall of the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City on Friday, April 10.
The event highlighted the results of the Regional and Sectoral Assessment for 2025, with several local government units (LGUs) receiving Gold and Silver plaques for their exemplary performance in disaster preparedness and response, Donato A. Sermeno III, chairperson of the Regional DRRMC and director of the Office of Civil Defense Negros Island Region, said.
The Province of Negros Occidental led the list of Gold Plaque awardees, joined by the cities of Bago, La Carlota, San Carlos, Sipalay and Talisay, as well as the municipalities of Manapla, Binalbagan and Isabela.
They were recognized for meeting high standards in disaster management protocols and resource allocation.
Meanwhile, 14 LGUs received Silver Plaques, including Bacolod City, Cadiz City, Himamaylan City, Kabankalan City, Sagay City, Silay City, and Victorias City.
Municipalities recognized in the silver category included Enrique B. Magalona, Escalante, Hinigaran, Hinoba-an, Ilog, La Castellana, and Moises Padilla.
Special awards were also conferred upon the City of Bago Emergency Response Unit and the Sipalay Emergency Assistance and Rescue Services for their outstanding field performance.*
