Man arrested for allegedly setting family home on fire in Kabankalan

A 47-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly set fire to his family’s house following an argument with his wife in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, early Thursday, July 30.

Police identified the suspect only as “Ronaldo,” a carpenter and resident of Brgy. Hilamonan.

The Kabankalan police said the incident happened at around 12:40 a.m. in Sitio Pasto.

Initial investigation showed that the suspect and his 42-year-old wife had a heated argument inside their home.

The woman told police that she left the house with their children and sought refuge at their daughter’s nearby residence because she feared for their safety.

Their daughter later allegedly saw the suspect, who was reportedly under the influence of liquor, intentionally set the house on fire.

The blaze quickly spread and completely destroyed the residence despite the response of Bureau of Fire Protection personnel.

The damage was estimated at P60,000.

Barangay officials found the suspect at the scene and placed him under arrest before turning him over to the Kabankalan police.

The suspect remains in police custody, while the Kabankalan City Fire Station is conducting a fire investigation for the possible filing of an arson case.*
