Mayor Neil Lizares has ordered the immediate rehabilitation of the landslide-hit road in Sitio Tambara, Barangay San Fernando, Talisay City, which situation has worsened because of recent rains.

The Negros Occidental provincial government will provide counterpart funds for the repair, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said on Thursday, June 16.

Executive Assistant Spyke Gutierrez, Talisay City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer, has submitted an assessment report on the landslide damage to Lizares.

The landslide has rendered the road impassable to large vehicles that has affected residents living in the area, where the bamboo farm of the provincial government and some tourist attractions are also located, Gutierrez said.

Lizares ordered the immediate repair to prevent further damage and degradation.

The provincial government assistance for the road repair will come from its disaster fund or general fund savings, Diaz said.

The provincial government also has another ongoing road project in the area that has been delayed by the landslide, he said.

The landslide will be taken into consideration in the construction of new road to ensure that the cliff side is stabilized, Diaz said.

The geologic condition in the area will be assessed to make the necessary engineering adjustments to prevent landslides where the new road is being constructed, he added.*
