Kanlaon Volcano, which is under Alert Level 3, continued to display intensified magmatic unrest on Sunday, Dec. 29, the Office of Civil Defense reported.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported ongoing ash emissions from the volcano, raising concerns for nearby communities, it said.

Ash emissions from the Kanlaon Volcano summit crater were recorded between 5:16 a.m. and 6:01 a.m., 6:20 a.m. and 6:56 a.m., 8:16 a.m. and 8:28 a.m., and 9:01 a.m. and 10:25 a.m. on Sunday, it said

These events generated grayish plumes that rose 100-200 meters above the crater before drifting west. A total of seven discrete ash emissions have been observed since Saturday, December 28, it added.

Local government units (LGUs) are actively monitoring the situation.

Four Emergency Alert Warning Messages (EAWMs) were issued Sunday to inform residents and local authorities of the situation and to encourage preparedness, the OCD said.

The ongoing activity at Kanlaon Volcano underscores the importance of community preparedness and vigilance, it said.

Local authorities and emergency services are on high alert, ensuring resources are available to support the affected residents, the OCD said.*
