Kanlaon Volcano emitted ash 19 times and had 18 volcanic earthquakes from Monday to today, June 15 to 16, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
There have been six ash emissions today, the longest of which lasted from 8:58 a.m. – 12:31 p.m. or 3 hours and 33 minutes.
Phivolcs said the event generated grayish plumes that rose 500 meters above the crater before drifting southwest, as captured by the IP camera at the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory–Canlaon City.
An ash emission that started at 3:35 p.m. was still ongoing this afternoon.
Other ash emissions today occurred at 2:41 a.m. to 2:42 a.m., 2:56 a.m. to 2:59 a.m., 4:19 a.m. to 4:43 a.m. and 12:49 p.m.to 1:04 p.m., Phivolcs reported.
Phivolcs also reported that from 12 a.m. Monday to 12 a.m. today there were 12 ash emissions at Kanlaon and 18 volcanic earthquakes, including 11 volcanic tremors.
Kanlaon also spewed 979 tons of sulfur.
The volcano remains under Alert Level 2 or increased unrest.*
