Falls swing operator in Siquijor arrested, illegal firearms seized

A swing operator at a popular tourist destination in Siquijor was arrested after police seized illegal firearms during a search warrant operation in Sitio Bolo-bolo, Barangay Capalasanan, Lazi on Thursday, Feb. 12.

Police identified the suspect as alias “Patet,” 61, a swing operator at Cambugahay Falls and a resident of the area.

The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region said the operation was conducted by personnel of the Lazi Municipal Police Station for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Authorities said the operation stemmed from reports by a concerned citizen that the suspect was allegedly brandishing a firearm in public and had reportedly fired it at dogs, causing fear among residents.

Police conducted surveillance and firearms verification which showed that the suspect was not a licensed firearm holder, prompting authorities to secure a search warrant.

Recovered from the suspect were a .45 caliber pistol with a steel magazine, a .38 caliber revolver, and live ammunition.

The suspect is now detained at the Lazi Municipal Police Station pending the filing of charges.*
