Esports takes centerstage at 4th Panaad Governor’s Cup

Esports in Negros Occidental has officially moved from the sidelines to the spotlight, as highlighted during the opening of the 4th Panaad Festival sa Negros Governor’s Cup MLBB Esports Competition held  at Ayala Malls Capitol Central Tuesday, April 14..

In his keynote address, Governor Eugenio Jose V. Lacson emphasized that the digital arena is now a fast-growing industry requiring strategic thinking, rapid decision-making, and strong collaboration—the very same skills necessary to face the challenges of the future.

The governor said more than just a tournament, esports serves as a unique platform that honors excellence in both competitive gaming and academic performance.

Reinforcing the educational value of the event, Fifth District Board Member and Committee on Education Chairperson  Rita Angela Gatuslao recognized esports as a training ground for critical thinking, teamwork, and resilience sharpened in real time.

She stated that as leaders in education, they acknowledge that learning now extends far beyond traditional classrooms, and hosting such events affirms the province’s commitment to supporting diverse talents.

Sangguniang Kabataan President and Board Member Mayvelyn Madrid who also joined the event reminded the participants that every game is an opportunity for growth regardless of the outcome.

She also commended the organizers and stakeholders for providing a space where young leaders can level up their skills, build meaningful connections, and represent the strength of their generation.

The event also champions the importance of academic balance, a point emphasized by NOLITC Officer-In-Charge Cely Carman-Trio in her welcome message. She stressed that the event aims to inspire students by proving that a healthy balance between rigorous studies and high-level gaming is entirely achievable.

In a move to highlight this balance, the event will specifically recognize the player who achieved the highest General Weighted Average (GWA) for the 2025-2026 school year. These top-performing student-athlete, along with the tournament winners, are set to receive trophies, medals, certificates, and cash prizes for their achievements.

This year’s Governor’s Cup features a massive turnout, with representation from 12 cities and 8 municipalities across the province.

The event is supported by the Province of Negros Occidental, led by Governor Bong Lacson, Vice Governor Jose Benito Alonso, and the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, and Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz II.

The tournament is further strengthened by a strategic alliance with major partners and stakeholders, including AcadArena, Moontoon E-Project, Mountain Dew, Globe, Tugon 6100, and Ayala Malls Capitol Central.*PR
