Release of ECC for removal of volcanic debris from Ibid Creek pending

The release of an Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) for the removal of volcanic debris from Ibid Creek in La Castellana, Negros Occidental, is currently pending.

Additional ECC application requirements need to be complied with first, Regional Director Vicente Losbañes of the Environmental Management Bureau–Negros Island Region said Wednesday, Oct. 14.

A Mines and Geosciences Bureau clearance and an assessment of the volcanic debris volume to be removed from Ibid Creek in Barangay Biak na Bato,  which is part of the Mt. Kanlaon Natural Park protected zone, are being awaited, he said.

“We are helping with the completion of requirements so the removal of the volcanic debris can proceed as soon as possible,” he added.

The removal of the debris from Ibid Creek is needed to prevent flooding, Losbañes noted, adding that the Protected Area Management Board will also need to issue a clearance.*
