A 3-year-old boy and a 63-year-old woman from Barangay Mansilingan in Bacolod City have tested positive for the highly contagious COVID-19 Delta variant, the Philippine Genome Center announced Monday, August 16.
This brings the number of Delta variant cases in Bacolod City to four, Em Ang, city administrator and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) executive director, said Monday, August 16.
The 3-year-old male, who is the third Delta variant case in Bacolod City, was asymptomatic and was tested for COVID-19 on July 15. He is believed to have been infected by his father, a security guard at a Bacolod bank, who tested positive for COVID-19 and has since recovered, Ang said.
The 63-year-old female, who is the fourth Delta variant case in Bacolod, was symptomatic and was tested for COVID-19 on July 23. She was fully vaccinated with Sinovac.
Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia reiterated his appeal to all Bacolodnons to remain vigilant by continuing to observe minimum health protocols.
On receiving the report that two more Bacolod residents tested positive for the Delta variant, Leonardia said he immediately ordered the surgical lockdown of the affected residential areas.
“There is no cause for alarm as both patients have already recovered,” he said.
The asymptomatic male Delta positive patient has already been released from the mandatory 10-day quarantine, while the 63-year-old underwent a 14-day isolation and had also been cleared, he added.
Rest assured that the city government, through the EOC, is on top of the situation, Leonardia said.
Apart from the surgical lockdown and ongoing contact-tracing measures, the EOC already conducted repeat swabbing of the two, including their close contacts, he said.
Contact-tracing up to third generation close contacts is also being conducted, Leonardia said.*
