The World Health Organization could announce the COVID-19 pandemic’s shift to an endemic status by September, Dr. Chris Sorongon, Bacolod Emergency Operations Center deputy, said Thursday, March 3.
The endemic status will depend on the worldwide COVID-19 situation, he said.
Meanwhile, Bacolod City is under Alert Level 1 only had two new COVID-19 cases for a total of 184 active cases on Thursday, the Department of Health (DOH) reported.
Bacolod City has vaccinated 585,823 of its residents or 124 percent of its target population, while 59,116 or 12.52 percent have been given booster shots, the DOH said.
It is important that Bacolod residents continue to practice minimum health protocols such as wearing of masks, hand washing and physical distancing so that the city can remain under Alert level 1 beyond March 16, Sorongon.
The collaboration and cooperation of all is needed to continue towards a new normal so the economy can further recover, Sorongon said.*
