Cops arrest gov’t employee in Sipalay drug buy-bust

A casual employee of the Sipalay City government was arrested in a drug buy-bust operation in Barangay Gil Montilla, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental, on Friday afternoon, Jan. 9.

Police identified the suspect as Shem Bonifacio, also known as “Shem,” 33, a resident of Brgy. Maricalum and a casual employee assigned to the Sipalay City Community Affairs Service.

The Sipalay police said the suspect was arrested at around 12:50 p.m. in Purok Lubi after allegedly selling a sachet of suspected shabu to a police poseur-buyer in exchange for marked money.

Authorities recovered a total of 11 heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected shabu, including the buy-bust item, with an estimated weight of three grams and a standard drug price of P20,400.

Also seized were the P500 marked bill used in the operation and other non-drug evidence.

The seized drug evidence will be brought to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office Forensic Unit for laboratory examination, while the suspect remains in the custody of the Sipalay City Police Station.*
