The Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC) and the Central Philippines State University (CPSU) in Negros Occidental have been granted P41.163 million under the Smart Campus Development project of the Commission on Higher Education, CHED chairman Prospero de Vera said Thursday, June 24.

CHMSC received a grant of PHP23.163 million to establish a college-wide network infrastructure project, Rhoderick Samonte, director for external affairs of the college, said.

“This is a real boost to our journey towards becoming a state university as well as to our vision of becoming a leading green institution of higher learning in the global community by 2030, “ he said.

The Smart Campus Development Project will focus on a system-wide development of the ICT infrastructure of all four CHMSC campuses – Alijis Campus and Fortune Towne Campus in Bacolod City, Binalbagan Campus in Binalbagan town and the main campus in Talisay City, Samonte said.

“This will help reshape how students study, how they learn, what they learn, and how they interact with their fellow learners and their teachers and mentors under a better normal,” he said.

The CPSU received a P18million grant to establish the One CPSU, One Network project that aims develop an advanced network of systems that will allow its extension campuses to virtually connect to its main campus in Kabankalan City.

Especially in the new normal, this online connectivity is considered an effective means for people to get access to education and other training opportunities, a CPSU statement said.

Dr. Aladino Moraca, CPSU president, said this project is a proactive initiative in the Learning Management System of the university that addresses the digital divide among its satellite campuses, especially in the efficient and effective conduct of distance learning, transactions, trainings and seminars for essential and extension services.

This project ensures that CPSU will be a smart university in the next 10 to 15 years, he added.

Meanwhile, Samonte said the CHMSC also received equipment and machinery worth P9 million for its NOCDELIGHT (Negros Occidental Center for Design, Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Innovation, Good Ideas, Human Development, and Technology Transfer) Fabrication Laboratory from the Department of Trade and Industry on Thursday.*
