Traffic enforcers showcased their dancing skills Saturday, September 25, at the semifinals of the Bacolod Transportation Authority Office’s (BTAO) first-ever dance competition.
They were given five minutes each for their respective routines at presentations held at four different venues — Bangga Metal in Barangay Alijis, Bangga Homesite, BS Aquino Drive-Lacson streets, and Magsaysay-Lacson Streets.
“This is to showcase the talents of our enforcers who are managing the traffic while performing dance moves at the same time. This program is for the upcoming MassKara Festival in October. We will showcase our winning traffic enforcers during the final competition of the festival,” said Police Maj. Ruel Culanag, head of both the BTAO and the Transportation Management Unit (TMU).
The competition started in August with 30 contenders. Of the number, 16 had advanced to the semifinals. The Top 10 will qualify for the final round, a Bacolod City Public Information Office press release said.
“We highly appreciate their cooperation, discipline, courtesy, and knowledge of the traffic laws that they implement,” said Culanag about the enforcers’ performances.
Judging the competition were representatives from the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), the Philippine Navy, BSM Group of Companies, City Health Office (CHO), Banaag LGBT Bacolod, and the BTAO.
“We’re not thinking that we are in a competition. We are just enjoying the moment as we show the judges our talent in hand signaling while dancing. For me, everyone really did great. This is a tough competition, so may the best traffic enforcer win,” JR Arazo, one of the semifinalists, said.
Meanwhile, the BTAO also named the “Best Traffic Enforcer of the Month” since April 2021. The winner received a cash prize, groceries, and equipment for traffic enforcement, Culanag added.*
