Bacolod secures hosting of ALCOR Games 2027

Bacolod City College (BCC) delivered an impressive performance at the Association of Local Colleges of Region VI and Region XVIII (ALCOR) Games 2026, finishing as first runner-up.

Mayor Greg Gasataya announced on Wednesday, May 8, t that Bacolod will host next year’s ALCOR Games after being unanimously selected by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

“I was informed by CHED-NIR that Bacolod has been unanimously chosen to host next year’s ALCOR Games. This is a significant opportunity for our city,” the mayor said.

BCC secured a total of 25 medals—3 gold, 15 silver, and 7 bronze—finishing just behind host Passi City, highlighting the strength and competitiveness of Bacolod’s student-athletes, a press release from the Bacolod City Communications Office.

These achievements not only brought pride to the city but also positioned Bacolod as an emerging hub for major sporting events in the country, it said.

In the coming months, Bacolod is set to host several large-scale competitions, including the National PRISAA Games from May 9–16.

The event, organized in partnership with STI West Negros University and the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental, is expected to draw over 12,000 athletes and delegates.

The games will officially open with a parade and ceremony on May 9 at the Panaad Park and Stadium, setting the stage for one of the largest multi-sport events hosted by the city this year.

Bacolod will also host the FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers on June 2–6, further strengthening its role in international basketball, as well as Batang Pinoy scheduled for December 12–18.

Gasataya emphasized that hosting large-scale sporting events brings substantial economic benefits to the city.

“These activities have a strong positive impact on our local economy, which is why we continue to fully support events like these here in Bacolod,” he added.

He also called on all concerned agencies to ensure the safety and overall experience of participants.

These back-to-back events reflect Bacolod’s growing capacity to host national and international competitions, as well as its commitment to promoting sports development and youth engagement, the press release said.*
