Bacolod cop relieved from post after firing service gun

The policeman who fired his service firearm in Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod City, on Tuesday, January 4, has been relieved from his post.

Pat. Jeric Panganiban was relegated to administrative work at Police Station 9 after he tested positive in a paraffin test, which is conducted to determine if a person has recently fired a gun based on the gunpowder residue.

Capt. Elmer Bonilla, Police Station 7 commander, said powder burns were found on Panganiban, which means he recently discharged a firearm.

Panganiban claimed he recently used his gun at a firing range.

Panganiban is in hot water after a complainant reported to the police station that the policeman chased him, while he was onboard a vehicle with his family, and fired his firearm twice.

Bonilla said both parties have already settled the issue but the police will continue to investigate the incident for the administrative case against Panganiban, who was disarmed and placed on restricted status.*
