The Bacolod City government here is calling on student filmmakers to join the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Student Shorts Competition themed “Paskong Pinoy /Pasko Sa Atin” as Bacolod becomes the first city outside the National Capital Region to host MMFF-related events in December.
The MMFF, now on its 52nd year, is an annual film festival organized by the Metro Manila Development Authority.
“Do you have a story you want to share with the whole Philippines? This is your chance. Show the talent of Bacolodnon and make our Christmas felt through film,” the city government said in its invitation on Tuesday.
The MMFF Student Shorts Competition, which seeks original stories that celebrate the Filipino Christmas experience, is presented by the MMFF, in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines and the Film Academy of the Philippines.
“A platform designed to showcase young Filipino filmmakers’ talents and creativity, the competition invites students to express their unique perspectives through film, highlighting the significance of ‘Paskong Pilipino/ Pasko Sa Atin’ as interpreted through their experiences, culture, and imagination,” the MMFF organizers said.
A total of 16 semi-finalists will each receive a PHP20,000 script development grant and participate in a story development workshop.
The eight finalists will have access to a PHP50,000 production grant, a short filmmaking workshop, and nationwide screening alongside the official MMFF 2026 entries.
The winning film, with recognition as the MMFF Best Student Short Film, will receive a PHP100,000 cash prize during the MMFF Awards Night.
The deadline for submission of entries is on Aug. 31.*PNA
