7 drivers test positive in drug screening at Bacolod North bus terminal

Seven of 100 transport drivers tested positive in an initial drug screening conducted at the Bacolod North Bus Terminal in Brgy. Bata as part of the government’s road safety measures for the Undas holidays, Oct. 30.

The Land Transportation Office-Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and Philippine National Police (PNP) conducted the random testing under Oplan Harabas-Undas 2026.

LTO-NIR said  those who yielded positive initial results included four tricycle drivers, two truck drivers, and one taxi driver.

The seven drivers will undergo confirmatory testing to determine whether the initial findings are accurate.

A total of 100 individuals, including tricycle, taxi, truck, modernized public utility vehicle, and traditional PUV drivers, participated in the screening.

LTO-NIR Assistant Regional Director Monico Puentevella Jr. also voluntarily underwent testing at the start of the activity.

The LTO-NIR said the initiative aims to prevent drug-impaired driving and strengthen passenger safety amid increased travel during the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.*
