The contracts of three Bacolod Traffic and Transportation Management Department job order workers working as traffic enforcers were not renewed on January 1 because of multiple complaints against them for extortion and corruption, BTTMD Deputy Jose Antonio Robello said on Friday.
Among the complaints against traffic enforcers were for asking for money from schools and churches where they are stationed at, Robello said.
There have also been complaints of licenses being taken from drivers for alleged violations and not being turned over to the BTTMD, he said.
The traffic enforcers then agree to release the licenses to the drivers for a fee, Robello said.
The BTTMD will continue to take action against traffic enforcers engaged in illegal activities in line with its zero corruption drive, he said.*
