2 killed in multiple vehicle collision

A motorcycle driver and his passenger were killed after they figured in a multiple vehicle collision at the national highway in Purok Manman Ko, Barangay Pandanon Silos, Murcia, Negros Occidental, on Saturday, November 6.

Killed were motorcycle driver Julieto Cañete, 47, of Barangay Rizal and Jimmy Gadiane of Barangay Prosperidad in San Carlos City.

The victims, both construction workers, were thrown off the motorcycle due to the impact of the accident. They were rushed to the Murcia Health Unit where they were declared dead on arrival.

The motorcycle of the victims was hit by a delivery van loaded with freezers of ice cream head on after it encountered mechanical trouble, a police report said.

This, after the delivery van driven by Micheal Cabugwason, 33, of Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City, hit the rear of the vehicle it was tailing and consequently, the sports utility vehicle that was behind the victims’ motorcycle during the crash.

Another motorcycle driver who was also tailing the victims was left unscathed after he managed to jump off the vehicle.

Cabugwason, the SUV driver, and his passenger sustained injuries from the incident.

The delivery van driver is now in police custody.*
