A landmark event for the sport of Arnis in the Negros Island Region (NIR) commenced this weekend, with the start of the 1st NIR Arnis Technical Officials Accreditation Seminar.
Held at Bago City from September 6-7 and continuing on September 13-14, the seminar aims to strengthen and standardize the technical capacity of Arnis officials in the region, in preparation for upcoming NIR-wide Arnis events and competitions.
The free accreditation, training, and seminar for Department of Education (DepEd) Arnis Technical Officials is a crucial step towards elevating the quality of officiating in division and regional events, a press release from the organizers said on Thursday, Sept. 11.
The initiative is in response to the growing need for skilled and accredited officials who can ensure fair and safe competitions for student-athletes.
The seminar boasts a roster of speakers and accreditors, including Don Jose Campoy and Arnel Gerat, both of whom are national and international Arnis Technical Officials Accreditors
They are joined by Rico Tañesa, Brian Martir, and Kent Nalam, all recognized as national and international arnis technical officials.
A highlight of the event will be the presence of Dr. Amado R. Macayan, the national president of the Department of Education Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (DEEKAF) and the Tournament Director of the Palarong Pambansa, the press release said.
DEEKAF, a body created to develop and implement Arnis competition rules for school sports events like the Palarong Pambansa, plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and proper conduct of student competitions, it added.
It adopts and adapts rules from the Philippine Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (PEKAF), the official National Sports Association for Arnis in the Philippines recognized by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
DEEKAF also sets eligibility standards for all participants, aligning with the National Accreditation and Screening (NSAC) standards.
This seminar will significantly contribute to the professional development of Arnis technical officials in the region, providing them with the necessary skills and official accreditation to officiate in sanctioned events.
Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of DEEKAF’s adapted rules, eligibility standards, and the overall professional conduct required to ensure the integrity of the sport.
The event underscores a commitment to fostering a high-quality and standardized approach to Arnis officiating, which will ultimately benefit the athletes and the sport as a whole in the Negros Island Region.*
