The “Victorias Sidlak Artists’ Park” entry of Victorias City won the “Lunsod Lunsad: A Call For Creative Proposals” of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and was granted a P1.5 million budget for its implementation.

Victorias City Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez received the award and grant during the “Lunsod Lunsad” Ceremonial Awarding together with Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District) at the Philippine Trade Training Center in Pasay City on Monday, October 16.

Local Economic Development and Investment Promotion Officer Paolo Valladarez submitted the Victorias Sidlak Artists’ Park proposal, the city’s entry to the competition.

This project is geared toward sustainable cultural and tourism development in Victorias, and is aimed to feature local artists and thriving micro-businesses.

Victorias Sidlak Artists’ Park will convert the right side of the City Public Plaza into an art district and will be a designated space for artists to showcase their art installations, murals, etc., a press release from Victorias City said Tuesday.

Micro-business owners will also be given ample opportunity to exhibit their local goods and products.

Victorias City joined Cadiz and Bacolod as the only local government units in the province of Negros Occidental to win the “Lunsod Lunsad” program.

NCCA and DTI recently launched Philippine Creative Industries Month to celebrate Filipino creativity and innovation.

“Lunsod Lunsad” is among the ongoing activities they are implementing as part of the celebration.

It is a national competition for local government units to submit their most innovative and creative project proposals focused on economic and cultural development, the press release said.

“With this project, our city aims for sustainable cultural and tourism development, making Victorias a true city of dreams, where everyone can thrive and achieve the promised,” Chief of Staff to the City Mayor and Culture and Ethics Officer, Dr. Joselito Diaz, said.*
