Vet student crowned 1st Sidlak Queen winner

Veterinary student Kyla Rose Romarate, 21, was crowned the new Kadalag-an Queen and Victorias City’s first-ever Sidlak Queen during the star-studded grand coronation night at the City Sports and Amusement Center on Saturday, March 18.

Romarate from Barangay V, Victorias, is an advocate of tourism, culture, arts, and heritage.

She bagged several awards, including Best in Talent, Best in Swimwear, Best in Evening Gown, Miss Photogenic, Sidlak Queen of Talk, Sidlak Designer Award, Darling of the Crowd, Ms. Northland Resort-Hotel Award, Ms. Global Strategic, and Ms. EGY Aesthetic and Medi Spa.

She took home more than P100,000 prizes from Bingo Plus, EGY Aesthetic, and Medi Spa, and from the other awards she received.

Kadalag-an Queen 2020 Gellyn Canabal took her final walk and turned over the crown to Romarate.

Education students Cassandra Mauren Matugas and Pauline Isabelle Guanzon were the first and second runners-up, respectively.

Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa, Daniel Matsunaga, Mikee Andrei, Rene Hinojales, and Bacolod City First Lady and Nikki Cares Foundation president Dominique Benitez were the judges.

Kadalag-an Queen 2023 was hosted by Miss Universe Philippines 2020 fourth runner-up Billie Hakenson and Marco Gumabao.

Popstar Sarah Geronimo-Guidicelli set the fire on stage as she performed her latest singles and a duet with Matteo Guidicelli.

Guidicelli serenaded the Victoriahanon with his rendition of some of the country’s popular love songs.

Victorias City Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez , in his message, said “Let us remember that beauty is more than just skin deep. True beauty radiates from within and it is the embodiment of the values that we hold dear as a community, kindness, generosity, and empathy”.

He also revealed that the winner of the beauty search will automatically become the city’s ambassador.

“Tonight, will not only be a victory for you but a call you must heed. And that is to be a role model to every young Victoriahanon woman, an epitome of beauty with a purpose and an empowered woman that truly reflects the Lady of Victory,” he said.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, Rep. Francisco Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District), members of the Negros Association of Local Chief Executives, and Victorias City officials attended the coronation night.
