The United Negros Alliance (UNegA) and Love Negros are eyeing unified slates from the provincial level down to the towns and cities of Negros Occidental in the 2022 elections, UNegA secretary-general Salvador Escalante said today.

They will work for the equity of the incumbent wherever it is possible, Escalante said, but acknowledged that it might not happen in some areas where political rivalry continues.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson of Love Negros and Jeffrey Ferrer of UNegA ran under a coalition in 2019 and apparently plan on seeking reelection in the same manner in 2022.

“The coalition is going strong, action speaks louder than words,” Escalante said.

The UNegA officers took their oaths before Lacson at Natures Village Resort in Talisay City on Friday, December 18.

The UNegA officers aside from Escalante are Sagay Mayor Alfredo Marañon III – chairman, Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer – president, and Rep. Juliet Marie Ferrer (4th District), treasurer.

The message of the governor is that as much as possible there should be equity of the incumbent at the local level in the 2022 elections, Escalante said.

That means the incumbent officials will automatically be the official candidates of the coalition at the local level, he said.

In areas where there is no political conflict, there is no need for each party to field candidates, Escalante added.

CAPITOL TRANSFER

Meanwhile, Escalante said the transfer of the provincial capital of Negros Occidental from Bacolod City to Talisay City is necessary.

The governor earlier said that there is a plan to transfer the seat of the Negros Occidental provincial government from Bacolod City to a 25-hectare property in Talisay City.

“The very reason why the late governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., invested in buying a property in Talisay City is precisely in that direction,” the mayor said.

It is more of necessity because of the congestion at the Capitol area in Bacolod City that’s has caused many of the provincial government offices to be scattered in different areas, Escalante said.

He also cited the traffic problem and lack of parking space at the Capitol area in Bacolod City.

The Talisay site will allow all of the provincial government offices to be located at one site, he added.*
