Two persons were shot dead while two others were injured  in Sitio Cang-alaw, Barangay Buenavista in Santa Catalina town, Negros Oriental, Friday morning, October 16.

The PNP clarified that only two people were killed contrary to their initial report that there were three fatalities.

Capt. Stephen Jaynard Polinar, spokesperson of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, said the third victim survived.

The crime scene was located in a hilly area and was far from the town proper.

The victims, who are from Brgy. Farmers in Santa Catalina,  were copra growers.

An  initial investigation report stated that the victims were in the hut when two armed men arrived and ordered them to buy them a drink.

The victims refused because they had no money. The gunmen then sold them their guns and when the victims refused to buy them, they were shot.

The PNP is still investigating the motive of the shooting but based on some reports, the victims and the suspects had already had a misunderstanding over a land boundary dispute.

Police identified the two suspects as residents of Brgy. San Isidro in the town of Pamplona.*
