A Negros-based civic coalition is calling for systemic reforms and accountability from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration and the political camp of Vice President Sara Duterte ahead of the State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Protesters will join the Taumbayan Ayaw sa Magnanakaw at Abusado Network Alliance (TAMA NA) – Negros coalition in a march rally from the Provincial Capitol Park and Lagoon  to the Bacolod City Government Center replica at the public plaza on July 27, Noly Rosales, Bayan Muna Negros secretary-general, said during a press conference on Friday, July 17.

About 5,000 protesters are expected to join, he said.

A TAMA NA statement released Friday said bureaucratic corruption remains deeply rooted in the current administration despite repeated public outcries and massive local mobilizations.

The coalition said that while investigations into corruption were initiated in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, they have been systematically stalled.

It said the ongoing political feud between the Marcos and Duterte camps is a primary obstruction to genuine justice, claiming the conflict is merely a struggle over power rather than public welfare.

TAMA NA – Negros further lambasted the administration’s handling of the country’s severe economic crises. Driven by global fuel spikes and domestic oil monopolies, the cost of basic commodities—including rice, meat, and vegetables—has reached historic highs, pushing millions of ordinary families deeper into poverty, it said.*
