Silaynon bound for Manila intercepted with ‘drug paraphernalia’ at airport

A 25-year-old passenger bound for Manila was intercepted at the Bacolod-Silay Airport after authorities detected suspected drug paraphernalia inside his baggage during a routine security screening early Sunday morning, May 11.

Authorities identified the passenger as Isagani Buena Ortula, a resident of Hacienda Sta. Isabela in Brgy. Bagtik, Silay City.

Reports said the incident happened at around 5:55 a.m. at the departure area initial X-ray scanner while the passenger was preparing to board Cebu Pacific Flight 5J 474 bound for Manila.

The suspicious item was detected by an Office for Transportation Security screener during standard X-ray procedures, prompting airport authorities to immediately coordinate with police officers on duty for proper action.

The passenger was later turned over to personnel of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for further investigation and proper disposition.*
