Scholarship program MOA for Negros brgy heads inked

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos president, Fr. Don H. Besana, signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the “Scholarship for Local Leaders on Barangay Governance”, Wednesday, June 22.

“This scholarship program for barangay officials is not just a pioneering initiative but a necessary step to develop the capacities of our barangay officials,” Lacson said.

The scholarship aims to boost the managerial and leadership skills of local leaders through the provision of a one-semester – 15 units Certificate on Public Administration and Governance, a press release from the Capitol said.

The scholarship will also provide in-depth understanding of the theories and practices in public administration focusing on barangay governance that will build the confidence of local leaders in managing barangay affairs and activities, it said.

The MOA signing was held at the UNO-R campus in the presence of Negros Occidental Board Member Juvy Pepello, Provincial Scholarship Program Division head Karen Dinsay, UNO-R Graduate School Dean – Dr. Dennis Madrigal, UNO-R Director for External Affairs – Dr. Carlos Eduardo Legaspi Jr., UNO-R Vice President for Academic Affairs – Fr. Jose Alden Alipin, and UNO-R Program Chair – Dr. Merlita Caelian, among others.

The scholarship program is also in collaboration with the Neg. Occ. Sangguniang Committee on Barangay Affairs led by Pepello.

Lacson thanked the UNO-R officials for their cooperation and support, and for providing barangay officials the brand of excellent instruction that UNO-R is known for, the press release said.*
