The Supreme Court announced Friday, January 14, that the Bar examinations have again been rescheduled because of the high rate of COVID-19 infections among the examinees and support personnel.

The Bar examinations have been rescheduled to February 4 and 6, from January 23 and 25, SC Associate Justice Marvic Leonen, 2020/21 Bar Examinations chairperson, announced.

He said 16.8 percent of the 8,546 Bar examinees who responded to an email sent by the Office of the Bar chairperson are either positive for COVID-19, living with someone positive for the virus, or under quarantine as direct contact.

They are at risk of not being able to take the Bar examinations if the original schedule were pushed through, Leonen said.

“Also, given the current infection rate and quarantine situation of the Bar personnel, 16 of the 31 teams that will be deployed will be critically understaffed if the current scheduled were maintained,” he added.

“Considering these numbers, as well as the projections of the court’s expert consultants on the progress of this current COVID-19 surge, the Supreme Court en banc has unanimously decided that the Bar Examinations be rescheduled,” Leonen said.

Examinees were advised to strictly undergo quarantine by January 20, he said.*
