Santa Catalina scales down fiesta amid energy crisis

The municipal government of Santa Catalina announced the suspension of major fiesta activities following the declaration of a national energy emergency.

In an official statementWednesday, April 15, Mayor Peve Obaniana Ligan said the decision was made in response to rising fuel costs and limited energy supply.

Affected activities include the Pakol Festival, Hara ng Santa Catalina, and other highlights of the town’s 78th fiesta celebration.

Officials said only simple and essential activities will be held with support from sponsors.

The local government said resources will instead be prioritized for essential services and assistance to affected sectors such as transport groups, fisherfolk, and farmers.

The mayor acknowledged the efforts of organizers and participants who prepared for the events.

Authorities appealed for public understanding and support as the municipality adapts to the ongoing energy situation.*
