
Athletes who represented Sagay City in the 2026 Provincial Athletic Meet and the Negros Island Regional Athletic Association Meet were formally presented during the flag ceremony at the Sagay City Government Center on Monday, April 6.
From the provincial meet, Sagay recorded 110 gold, 116 silver, and 201 bronze medals, with incentives set at P1,000 per gold, P800 per silver, and P500 per bronze.
For the regional meet, Sagay athletes earned 42 gold, 43 silver, and 15 bronze medals, with incentives of P3,000 per gold, P2,000 per silver, and P1,000 per bronze.
In total, the city is awarding more than P530,000 in cash incentives to athletes in recognition of their strong performance at both levels of competition, a press release from Sagay City said.
Coaches, assistant coaches, and chaperones will also receive P3,000 each, while trainers will be given P2,000 in support of their role in developing Sagay’s athletes.
Mayor Leo Rafael “Bebo” Cueva commended the delegation for bringing pride to the city.
“We are proud of your achievements. These incentives are a way of recognizing your hard work and encouraging you to continue striving for excellence,” the mayor said.
The program was attended by officials from the Department of Education – Sagay City Division, including Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Dannie Clark M. Uguil, and Division Sports Officer Josette P. Balandra.
Sagay City also emerged as first runner-up in the overall results of the Negros Occidental Provincial Athletic Meet.*
